Buyer job vacancies are out there, it’s just a matter of knowing where to look and when to look. It’s a jungle out there, but with these five tips in mind, you may be able to negotiate it and get yourself that new buyers job…
1)When you hear of people moving companies, call ahead of job advertisements.
A great way to get your CV noticed and your foot in the door is by calling ahead and making some sort of contact with the person who may actually end up interviewing you for the position you are aware of. By doing this, you will keep yourself at the front of their mind for both initiative and motivation concerning their vacancy. In order to keep up to date with people who moving from companies, you have to network, keep your ear to the ground and play the game.
2)Do not be afraid to cold call.
Buyers, by their very nature are astute and forward, not afraid to ask for what they want. It’s a good idea to send out your CV speculatively to companies, even if there is no vacancy. At least this way, you are in the line up ahead of time, remember a huge percentage of jobs are filled without formal interviews and advertising. Don not miss out on that ideal job because you were too busy waiting for it to be advertised and even when you think there is no job, you would be surprised at how often there is something that would suit you. If you like a particular companies culture and reputation, cold call. You never know what it will bring.
3)Make a recruitment consultant your friend.
Whether we love them or loath them, recruitment consultants are in fact someone who could help us and represent us better than we can ourselves with companies we would never be able to access. Recruitment consultants are able to put in the time and effort we quite simply cannot if we are already working and have contacts, that we quite simply will never have. Make them your friend and they can open doors that you alone will not.
4)Listen to feedback
If you are facing redundancy or suchlike, take up opportunities to go to training seminars on securing new positions. Often workshops within these seminars will have simulated interviews, these are excellent ways to gain feedback on how we come across to other people, especially considering the pressures of interview scenarios.
5) Upskill, educate and inform yourself.
For those who have been in current positions for sometime, there can not be enough emphasis placed on the importance of knowing what your professional values are at that moment in time. If there are certain key terms, phrases, values or approaches to buying that are out there and you aren’t using them or aware of them, you could find yourself in trouble. Buying is a dynamic profession, so make sure you are up to date with current themes and trends and inform yourself of the market place, in which you now find yourself.
